english-newIn the English Learning Area, students learn about the English language, how it works and how to use it effectively. They develop an understanding of the ways in which language operates as a social process and how to use language in a variety of forms and situations. They learn to speak, listen, view, read and write effectively for a range of different purposes.

The literacy focus for Pre-Kindy and Kindergarten children is to help them develop:

  • a love of reading and writing
  • an understanding that print conveys meaning
  • a link between spoken and written language
  • listening and speaking skills

Pre-Primary children learn vital early literacy skills through hands-on and interactive learning experiences with a focus on developing the children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Aranmore Catholic Primary School has a well-resourced library which complements the classroom programme.
The children from Kindy – Year 6 have a weekly library lesson with the Teacher Librarian in the Library which includes the opportunity for them to borrow books.
