Netball Update

There was a bye for netball last weekend as it was the long weekend.

There was still netball for 1 very special Aranmore girl though.  Sophie Rowse (6R) was selected for the Perth Development Team, and has been training hard with them all year.  This team represents Perth Netball Association in the Association Championship Carnival which was played over the long weekend.  This involved the best from Perth Netball Assoc playing teams from all other Associations around the state – both metro and country.

Well done Sophie.

Results below are for last weekend though, as the results weren’t included last week.

Aranmore Aqua

The AquaGirls kept their unbeaten streak going this season against Nedlands in Round 4. Our girls got out to a flyer in a fast opening quarter but then slowly lost the advantage over the next two quarters as they just couldn’t convert opportunities despite having more shots on goal. We were 3 goals down at the last break and had still failed to narrow the gap half way through the last quarter when Sophie Rowse decided to spark a revival with some really hard attacking running that saw us put together 4 unanswered goals to snatch an improbable lead with just a minute remaining.

Another interception deep in defence led to a transition the full length of the court but despite two attempts we just could not put the ball in the net. A defensive rebound and quick play from Nedlands saw them take the ball down the court and score the equaliser with 30 seconds to play. It was their centre pass but the girls hung tough to record an improbable but well deserved draw in what ended up being an exciting 20-20 result.

Lily Petch was fantastic in defence in the last quarter after being switched from attack and formed a good defensive team with Giovanna Pintabona as GK. All of the eight girls seemed to work harder the longer the match went on and were completely exhausted at the end, but a draw was a great reward for some really fantastic hard work.

Aranmore Green

A thrilling game for Aranmore Green team this weekend.  What started out as a fast attacking game by The John XXIII team, slowly turned around by half time with a lively defence by the green team.  The girls maintained a 3 point margin for the final half showing great skills in keeping that ball out of the other team’s goal circle.  The girls showed some very gutsy intercepts and good alternate passing techniques.  A low scoring finish with a 5 – 8 win to John XXIII.

Aranmore Purple

Great game from the Purple girls.  Tried very hard but were outgunned in the end by a very accurate opposition. Keep up the great effort
