RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Religious education is fundamental to the curriculum at Aranmore. Apart from daily lessons, children participate in an active prayer life and liturgical celebrations. Students enjoy peace and serenity in the school’s Prayer Room where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. The children receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation throughout their school life.

ACADEMIC STUDIES

Aranmore Catholic Primary School follows the Curriculum Framework. Learning areas covered are: The Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Languages other than English, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment, Technology and Enterprise.

SUPPORT PROGRAMME

All children at Aranmore are assisted by specialist support teachers to develop their numeracy and literacy skills. The Reading Recovery support programme is available for children experiencing reading difficulties in the early years (Years 1 - 3). Whilst children with learning needs are assisted, equally those with special talents are supported both within the teaching and learning programme.

KINDERGARTEN/PRE-PRIMARY

The Kindergarten and Pre-Primary building is situated on the school campus. This unit supports the philosophy of the teachings of Reggio Emilia where children are encouraged to express ideas through quality play, based on an inquiry/discovery model of learning. Children who are 4 years old begin Kindergarten if their birthday falls between 1st July the previous year and 30th June that year.

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

All children have access to computers in the classroom, interactive whiteboards and a well-equipped computer laboratory which is upgraded regularly. Children are able to access the internet for research purposes.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES

Aranmore offers opportunities for children to participate in various sporting and recreational activities as part of our philosophy of providing a well rounded education. The Physical Education programme provides numerous enjoyable activities to develop basic movement and sporting skills. Organised sporting events include swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals.

Children are able to participate in a variety of sporting activities both before and after school. This is dependent upon the level of interest shown and on support from parents of those involved.

MUSIC

Each class attends a weekly music lesson in the purpose built Music Room. In addition to the school programme, private tuition in voice or a number of instruments is available during school hours. Students are invited annually to audition for the school band. Highly skilled, qualified tutors teach in these areas. Students have the opportunity to play in festivals and at school assemblies.
